The sculpting tools let you shape your terrain โ carve rivers, lakes, raise mountains or hills, build ramps, and more!
Hereโs a quick look at the available tools:
๐ Globe: Show or hide the sculpting toolbar.
โฐ๏ธ Raise: Elevates the terrain to create hills or mountains.
๐๏ธ Lower: Carves into the terrain to create rivers, lakes, or valleys.
๐ชต Flatten: Raises or flattens terrain to form flat platforms.
โฐ๏ธ Erosion: Smoothly wears down slopes to give a natural look.
๐พ Noise: Adds random bumps across the terrain, ideal for rough plains.
๐ณ๏ธ Holes: Removes terrain faces to create holes โ useful for cave entrances.
๐ถ Ramp: Creates gentle slopes, ideal for player paths or accessible terrain.
๐ชฃ Smooth: Softens sharp edges and rough bumps in the terrain.
๐จ Paint: Activates the brush for texture painting (covered in the next chapter).
๐ Radius: Adjusts the size of the brush.
๐ง Hardness: Controls how fast or soft the brush applies the effect.
๐ Height Plane: Sets the max height for the flattening brush.
๐ฎ How to use the tools?
Using the sculpting tools is simple:
Select a tool from the toolbar.
Use your mouse brush directly on the terrain.
Switch tools anytime and sculpt until you get the result you want.
You can always come back later to tweak or refine parts of your terrain.
These tools are smart โ they auto-smooth the terrain as you sculpt, so in many cases, you wonโt even need to use the dedicated Smooth tool. ๐
๐ง The only tool that behaves a bit differently is the Paint tool โ weโll cover that in the next chapter.
๐ฑ๏ธ A quick note on navigation
Youโll often need to rotate or move the camera while sculpting.
Use the camera controls (see the About chapter for shortcuts) or hide the toolbar temporarily by clicking the ๐ Globe button โ then bring it back when you need it again.
And thatโs it! Terrain sculpting is easy and intuitive โ just brush and shape the world as you imagine it! ๐จ๐
